Our tradition has been that during Lent the parish has one fellowship dinner. This takes its cue from Laetare Sunday, which occurs on the fourth Sunday of Lent, in which the Latin word “Laetare” renders the word “rejoice”, from the phase “Rejoice, Jerusalem”, from the 66th chapter of Isaiah. The idea behind this is that the Church recognized that the mid-point of Lent can be somewhat taxing and so sought to lighten the mood just a bit through some more festive worship, vestments, music, and a lessening of Lenten devotions.
At Trinity we have begun the practice of rotating our themes. In odd years we enjoy a St. Patrick’s Day theme, replete with corned beef, cabbage, Irish soda bread, and Irish music. In even years we enjoy a Fish Fry.
We will resume this tradition as soon as we are able!
