Orris Walker, Bishop of
Long Island, graced us with his presence
at the 10:30 service on Sunday morning.

Bishop Walker first met with the vestry,
who were all quite taken with his presence.

The man was charming and insightful
and the discussion so lively that it went a bit past 10:30, with the
congregation waiting patiently in the pews. During the service, Bishop
Walker presented the Bishop's Medal for faithful
service to Jane Kaiser and Mort Smith. |
 |
(Mort
was out of town at a wedding and was officially presented with his medal
by Father Weaver at the subsequent Vestry
meeting.)
After the Eucharist, we held a coffee hour reception for the Bishop, who
was whisked off from time to time to examine Tiny
Tots, the Church School, the newly
constructed Youth Center in the undercroft, and various
elements of the physical plant. Bishop Walker stayed a long while,
hanging out in the kitchen and kibbitzing while we all put together
the necessities of the Annual Picnic, which was to
immediately follow. Although the Bishop had declined our invitation to
the barbeque, he did remain long enough to reach out to everyone present
and give each of us a few words of encouragement. The buzz following
his departure was that we'd like to see him here more often. |
